Report on the Training in the Use of eSpeak for Indian Languages during TOT Conducted by Enable India

Enable India, Bangalore conducted a TOT for training computer teachers for the blind, which was held from May 11 to 20, 2015 at Blind Empowerment Association, Kolkata and was attended by 26 delegates.

A day was dedicated to training the participants in the use of Espeak with Indian Languages. The participants from various states were educated in the following:

  • Advantages of NVDA.
  • Important configurations of NVDA.
  • How  to select various languages in Windows 7 and 8.
  • The Indian language keyboard.
  • Sequence of characters.

All the participants were made to type in their respective languages. It was noted that the participants were able to understand the layout of the Indian Language keyboard very easily.

The intention of  adding Indian language training in the TOT was to empower the trainers to teach their students in their own mother tongue.
